In detail
How much does canine gait analysis cost?
The cost of canine gait analysis varies depending on the practice, clinic and scope of the examination. There is no standard price, as each LupoGait location calculates its services individually.
Among other things, the price may depend on whether:
- only a gait analysis is carried out,
- the measurement is part of an orthopaedic examination,
- several measurements are taken for follow-up,
- a detailed discussion of the results is included.
For a specific price, it is best to contact a LupoGait location near you directly.
How do I prepare my dog for gait analysis?
For the most meaningful gait analysis, your dog should be able to move naturally and in a relaxed way.
As a rule, no special preparation is needed. However, a few points can help:
- Usual exercise: Avoid unusually intense exercise immediately before the appointment, unless your vet advises otherwise.
- Handling your dog: Bring a lead and a collar. The sensor holder is fitted on site.
- Previous findings: If available, earlier examination results or X-rays can be helpful.
- Medication: Tell the practice about any current medication. Do not stop it on your own.
- Behaviour: If your dog is anxious or nervous, let the practice know when you book.
The practice will let you know if any special preparation is needed for the examination.
What happens after the gait analysis?
After the measurement, the recorded movement data are analysed by the LupoGait software. The results can, for example, reveal differences between the left and right sides of the body and changes in individual movement parameters. The treating professional discusses the results with you and interprets them in the context of the clinical examination. The measured values can be documented as a PDF report and compared at later examinations, so changes in movement can be tracked over a longer period.
Important: A gait analysis complements the veterinary examination but does not replace a clinical diagnosis.
How long does a gait analysis take?
With LupoGait, the measurement itself takes 7 to 10 minutes. Including fitting the sensors and the discussion, you should allow 20 to 30 minutes.
What happens at the appointment?
- A short conversation: why are you here and what have you noticed?
- Your dog is fitted with the textile sensor holder.
- It walks on the lead along a 20-metre track.
- The software analyses the data, you discuss the result and receive the report.
Will pet insurance cover the gait analysis?
That depends on your policy. Some insurers cover diagnostic services when a vet orders them, while others exclude preventive care. Check with your insurer before the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
Usually not. The location will tell you if it would like one.
Your dog is not restrained or sedated; it simply walks on the lead. Mention the anxiety when you book, and the practice will allow a little more time.
