Canine gait parameters
Analysing movement objectively
Canine gait parameters provide objective information about the temporal and kinematic characteristics of the gait. With LupoGait, movement patterns can be examined quantitatively, differences between limbs recorded and changes documented across repeated measurements.
Parameter groups
Which gait parameters are recorded in dogs? Six questions about the gait.
The 34 gait analysis parameters of LupoGait 6 and LupoGait 12 are organised into six groups. Each group answers a question that arises during the examination anyway.
Working together
Only several answers together give the full picture
Each group goes one step deeper than the previous one. What merely stands out in the rhythm can be narrowed down through mobility, loading and stability. That is why it pays to look at the groups together.
The gait analysis parameters in detail
We are happy to show you which gait analysis parameters lie behind the six groups in a real measurement, either at one of our partner locations or directly at your premises.

Benefits
Why the parameters matter
A single gait parameter initially provides quantitative information about one specific aspect of movement. Only by looking at several parameters together can the gait be described in a more differentiated way.
For example, differences between stance and swing phase or changes in range of motion can indicate functional abnormalities. However, the clinical significance of such changes must always be assessed in the context of the examination of the dog.
How are the data visualised?
Repeated gait analyses make it possible to document changes in individual gait parameters over a longer period. This can be particularly helpful in rehabilitation, physiotherapy care and the long-term observation of individual movement patterns.
- Immediate results: direct assessment after the measurement
- 34 movement parameters: from symmetry to joint angles
- Objective progress comparison: changes and treatment success
- Easy documentation: share results or export them as a PDF

What the analyses look like
Applies to LupoGait 6 and LupoGait 12. The LupoGait Puppy add-on analyses nine gait parameters and also calculates a hip score for the left and right sides. More about the LupoGait Puppy Add-on.

How does the joint move during a stride?
Each line shows one measurement over a complete stride, from start to finish.
How far does it extend and flex?
Bars pointing up show extension, bars pointing down show flexion. Two measurements compared.
How powerfully does the dog move?
The higher the bar, the more movement during a measurement. Three measurements compared.

What rhythm is the dog moving in?
The bars show how long each limb is on the ground. Three measurements compared.
How consistent and stable is the gait?
One value per measuring point, including the back, neck and tail. Three measurements compared.
How much does the joint move?
Each point represents the range of motion at one measuring point, in degrees. Two measurements compared.
