Powerful young dog with HD, 51 kg

Dario with Sam, one and a half year old Leonberger x Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Switzerland

“When I saw Sam for the first time, I was blown away. We flew home from Düsseldorf in the passenger cabin. That was the beginning of the happiest time of my life. But this state didn’t last long, because suddenly my puppy’s hind legs showed an X-position.

For cost reasons, the right hip was operated on first. This operation was initially successful because he was able to take more and more weight with his right hind leg. However, the gait looked more devastating than before.

That was really difficult to cope with. But today, thanks to the graphical representation of the gait analyses before the surgery and the progress checks after, I understand how Sam’s gait has changed for the better, contrary to the visual perception. Over time, I was even able to see for myself how Sam was increasingly taking the weight off his left leg, which had not yet been operated on. This gave me the feeling of security that I was on the right track with Sam. And yet I am also sad that I cannot ask my dog directly about his condition. Now we are building Sam up through physiotherapy and controlled exercise. And the measurements show: Things are looking up!”
